NM Certified Public Supervisor Class Requirements Checklist

New Mexico EDGE is proud to offer the NM EDGE Certified Public Supervisor certification. This designation builds on the basic skills taught in the Certified Public Official program with a greater emphasis on skills needed at the supervisory level. The certification features classes within six core educational tracks including Knowing Your Government, Management and Leadership, Human Resources, Budgeting and Public Finance, Communications, and IT.

Students completing all classes required to earn the CPS designation will participate in a six-hour assessment involving small group work on a project that demonstrates the knowledge gained through this program.

What Others are Saying

Lucy Felt, Accountant Senior
“I like that the NM EDGE program is accessible and informational for any employee, no matter their field of work or where they are in their career path. The classes allowed me to expand my skills in a positive learning environment and group setting. They are tailored for working adults, and I enjoyed being able to bring my work experiences to class and use what I learned in class to my job. By offering access to NM EDGE, and specifically the Certified Public Supervisor designation, Santa Fe County is allowing current employees such as myself to qualify for supervisory positions within the County and potentially apply concepts and skills gained through the EDGE classes to the roles. I am grateful to my employer and to the EDGE instructors, administrators, and curriculum for the opportunity to take these classes and strengthen several areas in my everyday job duties.”

Ivan Barry, Chief Deputy Assessor
“This achievement is the result of nearly a decade of participation in the NM EDGE program, which has been instrumental in broadening my understanding of local government. Through NM EDGE courses, I have gained essential skills in areas such as conflict resolution, professionalism, and a deeper knowledge of government. These courses have not only enhanced my professional abilities but also enabled me to contribute more effectively in my Santa Fe County career.

I will always be an advocate for NM EDGE, as I continually encourage others to take advantage of these incredible opportunities. This program has been vital to my professional growth, and I truly believe it can benefit anyone working in public service.”

Emma Felt, Department Administrator
“I liked how the NM EDGE courses enabled me to see different techniques of mediation and problem solving my managers use in a comprehensive manner. They also taught for real word applications, concepts from the Risk Management class, such as liabilities and balancing costs and benefits, helped inform conversation topics so I could keep up. Beyond this, I learned how to make more compelling written documents, and how to make situations easier both in and out of my professional life. For my employer, I think the training's on conflict resolution as well as on how to create an engaging meeting helped me build better bonds and communicate more clearly with constituents and internal staff, so ultimately they gained an employee who is better at meeting people where they are.”
