What Others are Saying

Pamela Heltner, County Manager, Otero County
“I enjoy the fact that most of the classes apply to my daily duties as County Manager. I have gained the knowledge that you can never stop learning and there are many resources, not only in the NM EDGE program but in general, that can be used to continue to make you a better public servant. Otero County has gained an employee with a broader range of tools to use daily as I go about my duties as County Manager.”

Kelly Livingston, Director, Lea County Government
“In my journey through NM EDGE and the Certified Public Manager® Program, I learned about many different areas of government and their purpose in the communities they serve. I can honestly say there was not one class which I did not feel was important to my function and knowledge as a government employee. NM EDGE was monumental in educating me on different levels and areas of government and how different areas impact or interact with others. Additionally, I have learned how to not only improve my own skills and success as a public official but how to manage or operate within specific areas of local government to provide better services and accountability along with management and proper leadership of employees. Through my education and implementation of my final project, I feel my agency will benefit through my knowledge of, and dedication to, government along with commitment to continuous improvement in my organization to create high values, high trust and even higher success.”

Alma Ruiz, Internal Auditor, City of Las Cruces
“What I liked most about the NM EDGE classes was how relevant and applicable the content is to my job, as well as how knowledgeable the class advisors were in their field of expertise. What I’ve gained from enrolling in and completing the nationally recognized CPM consortium program is the confidence within my own self to earn this designation. I know that I am a much better, well-rounded City of Las Cruces employee because of the knowledge, skills, and abilities I have gained throughout this program, which is designed specifically for government employees. As part of the CPM program requirement, I had to complete a Capstone Project. I know the project I developed will benefit not only the City of Las Cruces organization and its employees but also the citizens of Las Cruces. Thank you to my CPM program advisors, for their continued encouragement throughout this process and my family for their unwavering support!”

Sylvia Tillbrook, Executive Assistant, Otero County
“What I loved most about the NM EDGE program has been meeting people from across the state and learning about the issues their counties face. I have gained an insight on how to think about problems and how to work on solutions. I have learned many skills throughout the process, however; the most valuable are my enhanced personal leadership strengths. These enhanced skills are benefit to both my employer and the community.”

Melissa Washburn, Chief Deputy Assessor, Eddy County
“NM EDGE classes have provided me with the education and tools to transition from the private sector to the public sector. This program has given me the opportunity to learn and practice humility, ethics and good management skills. I feel that Eddy County’s investment in my education has made me care more about the County and it has given me the drive to be the best public servant that I can be. Thank you Eddy County and NM EDGE.”
